Our Webinars are presented at noon, both EST and PST, on specific dates, for one hour and therefore are called Brown Bag Series. Our engineering topics are of interests to a wide variety of engineering disciplines and are of a nature that presents interesting projects which demonstrate the engineering process. They are brought to you live and in color and animation, presented by our PE Professor.

ENGINEERING THE FIRST FLIGHT

Two brothers, who were bicycle repairmen from Dayton, Ohio, are credited with one of the landmark engineering feats of all time: the first manned flight. How could this be? They had no engineering education; in fact, little education past high school. They had no technical inspiration from their home life: neither father, mother, or siblings had a technical flair. Surely the Wright brothers just got lucky, or maybe were just good at construction methods and copied ideas from previous inventors. Or maybe it was a miracle that their craft was able to, for a short period of time, satisfy the requirements for flight. Maybe their story has been exaggerated over time; become a myth.
